Bear Battalion Teams
Color Guard
Color Guard consists of four members: an American Flag, Texas Flag,
and two guards. Our team presents or posts colors at different events such
as football games, school and community ceremonies, etc. The Guard practices
about an hour to an hour and a half the week prior to an event, and sometimes
schedules extra practices if necessary.
We hope to get as many cadets as possible involved in Color Guard for the
2009-2010 school year.
Sabre Guard
Sabre Guards are used to provide a formal introduction for participants during special
events. Sabre Guard practices the week before they are scheduled for performance.
Armed Drill Team
The Armed Drill Team is an extremely disciplined group of dedicated cadets who
practice and perform silent rifle routines during Parent Days, special JROTC
functions (Dining Out, Veteran's Day Parade, etc.), and competitions. The Armed
Drill Team routines consist of a number of uniform Manual of Arms moves and
difficult spins that show the skill and strength of each cadet. The team members
use demilitarized Springfield rifles without slings that weigh 8.5 lbs. Our team
practices routinely Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 4-5:30 p.m. every week,
consistently. If there is an event coming up within two weeks the team will
practice every day during the week for sometimes 3 to 4 hours non-stop.
The team has many goals for this year; one is to prepare ourselves for our first
competition during the second semester. Another is to get a new and unique uniform
for the Armed Drill Team Members. Also, our team is coming up with a Team Name and
a motto to distinguish ourselves from the rest of the Battalion.
Raiders Team
Raiders Team is a physical fitness team that competes at meets to outscore
other teams by how many push ups and sit ups they do. Along with that total,
they complete a 800 meter run. Raiders' Team practices about three to four
times a week. We train in the areas of physical fitness so that we can keep
what we learned for next-year team, while at the same time helping ourselves
to be above average physically for next year.
